I have neglected the blog of late, I suppose I could come up with a myriad of excuses but if the truth be told I haven't felt like I've had anything to share. That in itself it is pretty poor excuse, as with anyone else plenty has happened in the last few weeks but nothing has inspired me to sit down and write. Christmas has been and gone, the New Year is upon us, always the perfect time for a fresh start, which brings me onto today's topic.
The first day of January and nearly each and every one of us are full of good intentions. Disguising these as New Year resolutions. I know I'm not the only one that half-heartedly makes these pledges knowing that will be a distance memory come the start of February. They can only ever work if we have the right mindset to see them through. I wish I could say that this type of thing only happens to me once a year alas that would be a lie.
I've had what I do highlighted to me recently by a very good friend – it shows that you only see what you want to.
As I journey through the year I'm faced with many things that are good ideas, from the trivial to the more important life changing actions, rather than dealing with them in that moment I add them to 'the list'. I can see you all nodding as we all do the same, we know we should be putting actions into place but think there is no harm with saving them until tomorrow. Perhaps this would be true if it wasn't for the fact that 'the list' grows each day. Take a minute and think of all the things in the last 12 months you told yourself you were going to do that have mysteriously disappeared in the the sands of time. I know right now that you have recalled something that you haven't thought of for months, as we all do exactly the same.
Part of the problem is we make mental notes of too many things at once without dealing with the first and then moving on. This could be the perfect point for inserting a joke about multitasking but I shall refrain. If too many thoughts clog our brains rather than dealing with them we invent 'the list' an ingenious creation that stops us from having to see what we want and what we have to do to achieve it.
How about about we all make the same resolution this year – to carry out what we want to do, in that moment instead of allowing it to gather dust and be forgotten about until the day of good intentions is upon us once more. Instead of saying 'I'm going to phone Aunty Muriel soon as I haven't spoken to her for ages' pick up the phone at that time or she won't ever get to hear your 'enthusiastic' call.
I will write more blogs this year – I've added it to 'the list'.
Happy New Year everyone
Enjoy today, look forward to tomorrow.
:) So nice! I think that I have changed my resolution to include....no more resolutions.....just DO!
